Honoring nurse practitioners

Celebrating Nurse Practitioners Week: Recognizing the Clinical Leaders Caring for Our Community

This week, Haskell Memorial Hospital is proud to recognize our Nurse Practitioners for the essential role they play in delivering high-quality care to the people of Haskell and the surrounding communities.

Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are advanced practice clinicians with graduate-level education and extensive clinical training. They diagnose and treat illness, manage chronic conditions, prescribe medications, order and interpret tests, and provide preventive and primary care. In many cases, they are the primary healthcare provider for individuals and families.

In a rural community, access to care matters. Having skilled clinicians close to home helps patients receive timely diagnosis and treatment without unnecessary travel. Our Nurse Practitioners are central to that mission.

The Role of Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs)
Family Nurse Practitioners (FNPs) are trained to care for patients across all stages of life—from childhood through older adulthood. FNPs often serve as a family’s main healthcare provider, building long-term relationships that support preventive care, early diagnosis, and ongoing management of health conditions. Their broad scope of practice allows them to provide consistent, comprehensive care that helps families stay healthy close to home.

What Makes Nurse Practitioners Essential

  • Advanced Clinical Training: NPs complete rigorous education and certification to provide comprehensive medical care across the lifespan.
  • Patient-Centered Approach: They take time to listen, educate, and partner with patients in their care plan.
  • Continuity of Care: NPs and FNPs build ongoing relationships with patients, contributing to better understanding and improved outcomes.
  • Expanding Access Locally: Their presence ensures our community has reliable, local access to primary and specialty care.

“Nurse Practitioners are highly skilled clinicians who care deeply about this community,” said
Chief Executive Officer, Michelle Stevens, MHA, CRHCP.
“Their expertise strengthens our hospital and helps us continue providing high-quality care close to home.”

Healthcare Is a Team Effort

At Haskell Memorial Hospital and our clinics, Nurse Practitioners work alongside our physician, nurses, therapists, and support staff. This collaborative approach ensures patients receive coordinated care that is appropriate, timely, and responsive to their needs.

Thank You to Our Nurse Practitioners

This week and every week, we extend our appreciation to our Nurse Practitioners and Family Nurse Practitioners for their clinical leadership and dedication to the well-being of our community.

High-quality care doesn’t require leaving Haskell. It’s here — delivered by skilled professionals who know you, your family, and your community.
