Lab Week: Celebrating the Team Behind the Answers

When a clinician orders bloodwork, checks cardiac markers, investigates troubling symptoms, or needs fast information to guide treatment, the laboratory is often where the answers begin.

During Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, Haskell Memorial Hospital is recognizing our laboratory team for the essential role they play in patient care every day. At Haskell Memorial Hospital, the laboratory offers a wide range of testing services to support both routine and urgent care needs. With same-day results available for many tests, the HMH lab helps patients and clinicians get timely information without unnecessary delays. Services include routine chemistry, special chemistry, immunology, cardiac, and hematology testing.

When testing can be performed close to home, patients don’t have to wait as long for results or travel elsewhere for many of the answers they need. It also helps providers act faster when treatment decisions need to be made.

“Laboratory testing plays a critical role in nearly every part of patient care,” said Michelle Stephens, CEO of Haskell Memorial Hospital. “From routine screenings to urgent situations, accurate and timely lab results help our providers make informed decisions and help our patients move forward with confidence. During Lab Week, we are proud to recognize the skill and dedication of our laboratory team.”

The HMH lab performs more than 17,000 tests each year. Backed by more than 20 years of combined experience, the laboratory team brings a high level of knowledge, precision, and consistency to their work.

“Our job is to provide reliable information that supports good care,” said Rachel Hermosilla, BSMT, RMT, MT(AMT), Laboratory Director at Haskell Memorial Hospital. “Whether it is routine bloodwork or testing needed in a more urgent situation, we know patients and clinicians are counting on us.”

The laboratory is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with inpatient lab services available on a 24-hour basis. That means the lab is prepared to support scheduled testing during the day while also remaining available when urgent needs arise for hospitalized patients after hours.
