In line with its mission to do more than provide excellent medical care, Haskell Memorial Hospital is partnering with Healing Hearts K-9 Therapy, bringing joy, comfort, and connection to patients and staff alike with pet therapy.
The program began in October with a visit from Beta, a trained therapy dog who made her way through the halls of the hospital, delivering tail wags, soft cuddles, and plenty of smiles. Pet therapy visits will take place every other week.
“Beta made an instant impact,” said Michelle Stevens, MHA, CRHCP, CEO of Haskell Memorial Hospital. “We saw patients light up the moment she walked into the room, and our staff felt the benefit too. This program is about more than warm moments — it’s about holistic healing, connection, and improving the overall care experience.”
Pet therapy has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and pain, while also promoting positive social interaction and emotional well-being. For patients facing long hospital stays or stressful treatments, the comfort of a furry companion can make a significant difference.
Haskell Memorial Hospital hopes to expand therapy visits to more units and times, continuing to build on its commitment to whole-person care and emotional wellness.
“Woof woof woof, woof woof,” said Beta the dog, director of cuddles at Healing Hearts K-9 Therapy. “Bark bark bark, bark bark.”
