Specialized Therapies & Services: Comprehensive Recovery at Haskell Memorial Hospital

Recovery doesn’t look the same for every patient. That’s why Haskell Memorial Hospital’s Swing Bed Program, also known as post-hospitalization recovery, offers a wide range of specialized therapies and services to meet each patient’s unique needs. From physical therapy to social work, our team works together to ensure patients not only heal but thrive as they transition back to independent living.

Nursing Services

Our nursing team provides day-to-day recovery care, pain management, and patient education. Nurses are often the first line of support, ensuring patients feel comfortable, cared for, and informed throughout their stay.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy helps patients regain strength, improve balance, and increase flexibility after injury, illness, or surgery. Whether the goal is to walk confidently again or return to favorite activities, our therapists create personalized plans that focus on safe, steady progress.

Occupational Therapy

Relearning daily living skills can be one of the most important parts of recovery. Our occupational therapists work with patients on tasks such as dressing, bathing, and cooking, helping restore confidence and independence.

Speech Therapy

Communication, reading, and safe swallowing are vital to quality of life. Speech therapy helps patients rebuild these skills after stroke, surgery, or other conditions that affect speech and swallowing.

Respiratory Therapy

For patients with breathing difficulties, our respiratory therapy team provides both treatments and education. This includes support for those needing oxygen therapy and guidance on how to manage respiratory conditions at home.

Nutrition Services

Nutrition plays a major role in healing. Our dietitians provide education and support to help patients make food choices that encourage recovery, promote strength, and manage chronic conditions.

Pharmacy Services

Our pharmacy team works alongside the medical team to ensure every patient’s medication needs are met. This includes monitoring prescriptions, preventing interactions, and providing guidance on proper use.

Social Work

Our social workers provide essential support for both patients and families. They connect patients with community resources, help arrange in-home care or alternative living arrangements, and may also provide assistance with advance healthcare directives if requested. Social workers also guide patients who may need medical equipment or supplies once they return home.

“Recovery is more than healing a wound or regaining strength, it’s about helping patients get back to living their lives fully,” says Misty Gibson, RN, Swing Bed Coordinator. “Our specialized therapies and services are designed to treat the whole person. By bringing together nurses, therapists, dietitians, pharmacists, and social workers, we ensure every patient has the tools and support they need to recover safely, comfortably, and confidently, without leaving their community.”

At Haskell Memorial Hospital, we believe recovery should be comprehensive, compassionate, and close to home. If you or a loved one need of post-hospitalization recovery, ask your doctor or hospital discharge planner about our Swing Bed Program and the specialized services that make healing possible.
